Biography
Dr. Richard Robert Elhaj grew up in Southern California. While attending UCLA, he performed research alongside Dr. C.R. Gallistel, studying the neurobiology of computation in an attempt to further unravel the mystery surrounding the workings of the brain. He graduated Cum Laude from UCLA in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. He then immediately began his studies to become a Doctor of Optometry.
During his Optometric schooling, Dr. Elhaj completed a study involving visual motor reaction times in adults. He graduated Salutatorian of the prestigious Doctor of Optometry program at SCCO in 2001.
Starting in August of 2001, Dr. Elhaj began practicing Optometry at the EYEXAM of California/LensCrafters location in the Topanga Plaza (Woodland Hills/Canoga Park). He specialized in contact lenses and ocular disease diagnosis and management. During his nine years working with EYEXAM of California, Dr. Elhaj had the honor of serving on their Quality Assurance Committee. He also helped the company test market and implement the state-of-the-art Optomap retinal scanning technology to all locations.
In July of 2010, Dr. Elhaj joined the team of doctors at the Laser Eye Center. There, he is able to provide full scope Optometric care to patients undergoing refractive and pterygium surgeries (including LASIK and PRK). Helping participate in successful surgical outcomes and seeing the difference it has made in these patients' lives has proven to be very fulfilling.
When not engaged in patient care, Dr. Elhaj spends time with his family and friends. He also enjoys swimming, as well as playing tennis and basketball.
